We Support Male Survivors
3 Things Rape and Abuse Crisis Center Wants You To Know About Male Survivors:
1 in 6
It is important to know that 1 in 6 men are sexually abused or assaulted. What happens to us as children does not need to define us as adults. Whether you or someone you know has been abused, you are not alone. The team at Rape and Abuse Crisis center is here to listen and support you.
It’s normal to feel shame or self-doubt
Some men believe they should have been stronger and fought off their perpetrator. Men who experienced normal physiological responses during the abuse or an assault may be confused – but it in no way implies that you wanted, invited, or enjoyed the assault. It is not your fault.
Males abused by females are not “lucky”
Masculinity often paints the picture of boys being “lucky” if they have any type of sexual experience with girls and women. In reality, the abuse behavior is anything but a positive experience. To be used as a sexual object is never a good thing and can cause lasting harm.
The team at Rape & Abuse Crisis Center is trauma-informed and here to help when you are ready to reach out. Whether you’re looking for safety in a crisis, increased understanding of your experiences, or just a listening ear—we are just one phone call away.
