Adopt a Need Program

Thank you for your interest in the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center’s Holiday Adopt a Need program! In the past, individual and corporate donors have generously given to families experiencing violence and abuse through our Adopt a Family and Holiday Gift Room programs. Through these programs, individual families provided wants/needs lists specific to their family members. While this has provided wonderfully for these families, due to the large number of clients seeking services (over 3,000/yr), RACC feels it would be a considerable challenge to provide opportunities for all individuals/families seeking services to be “adopted.”

Children and adults who have been victimized or are in crisis do have urgent needs around the holidays and all year long. To meet these needs, RACC implemented an Adopt a Need program which identified ways to support clients and their children both while they are at RACC receiving services or to support their basic needs as they rebuild their lives. Gifts/items weren’t chosen for a specific individual but rather given to clients as needed.

The 2017 Adopt a Need Program has three components- Urgent Needs. The special projects fill a specific need/service to child or adult clients and could be adopted by an individual or group interested in filling that need. Urgent needs represent ongoing basic needs items that would be given to clients on an as-needed basis and donors do not need to “adopt” or fulfill any specific amount or quantity.
